Climate
Sweden has four distinct seasons which differ depending on where you are in the
country. The following applies to Stockholm:
Winter: December through March. Winters can be snowy and cold. Count on
temperatures from +2C to +7C.
Spring: April and May. Varying weather conditions. Usually scattered showers and
sunshine. Large differences between daytime and night-time temperatures, ranging
from +5C to +15C.
Summer: June through August. Swedish summers are considerably warmer than their
reputation. Often long periods with very warm and sunny weather. Temperatures up
to +25C or more. The light is special during the summer. The days are very long
and the nights are short. It never gets really dark during the early summer (June
and July).
Autumn: September through November. Often crisp, sunny autumn days, but also
risk for rain. Temperatures between +5C and +18C. Cooler at night.

Drinking water
Tap water is fit for drinking everywhere in Sweden.

Language
The official language in Sweden is Swedish. English is compulsory in school from
the age of 10, so most Swedes speak good English. German, French and Spanish are
also studied in school, although they are less frequently spoken than English.
Right of access to open country
This unique Swedish public right, called Allemansrätten, allows everyone to
walk freely through the countryside, and camp for one night in the forests and
countryside without a permit. It also places serious responsibility upon each
individual to protect the countryside. There are many restrictions intended to
prevent damage.
Time zone
GMT + 1 hour. Daylight saving time begins at the end of March and lasts until
the end of October.
Tips
Tips and service charge are included in all prices at hotels and restaurants and in taxis. If you want to show your appreciation for good service, leave a
small tip (approximately 10%) anyway.
