TURKU CATHEDRAL
Turku Cathedral is Finland´s national shrine. The church is dedicated to the
Virgin Mary and was inaugurated in the year 1300. At the same time, the first
bishop of Finland, St. Henrik, was named the patron saint of the church. The
Cathedral is the final resting place of bishops and warlords and even one queen.
The cathedral is regarded as one of the major records of
Finnish architectural history.
The Cathedral Museum on the southern gallery takes the visitor back in time to
the 14th century. The museum´s exhibits cast light on the Cathedral´s history
