John Glass: Born in the Highlands of Scotland, I discovered my love of
whisky when studying biochemistry at St Andrews University. This lead to me
working in whisky bars and attractions to gain more knowledge of Scotch whisky
before joining Ian Macleod Distillers 5 years ago as part of the blending team.
I have been learning more and more over the years and am now heavily involved in
cask selection and recipe design for all of the products in our portfolio.
Glengoyne and the magic of the cask: Talking about his role at Glengoyne,
John Glass looks at the brilliant yet unpredictable nature of oak casks in
maturation and how correct analysis and selection is vital to producing the
famous Glengoyne range. Both the good and bad side of cask influence will be
looked at alongside great whiskies from the Glengoyne and Smokehead range with
one or two surprise whiskies along the way.
